1.
This is Sarah Nixey talking. There are at least two sides to every story. There are songs that tell of the beginning and some that come towards the end. Some of these songs are true and some tell lies. One or two are eager for impossible romance.

When I’m here with you My lover my fool It’s a game of chance Solitaire for two I’m dancing to the tune Of a lazy afternoon I breathe so easily When I’m here with you Dancing to the tune Of a lazy afternoon I breathe so easily When I’m here with you Come dance into the night We can go high above Go anywhere We’ll dance into the night Far away You can take me there Let’s enjoy the view And wait for the mood You can play your best cards You’ve everything to prove Dancing to the tune Of a lazy afternoon I breathe so easily When I’m here with you Come dance into the night We can go high above Go anywhere We’ll dance into the night Far away You can take me there

Slip into oblivion Beautiful oblivion I picture you oblivion Beautiful oblivion I see the good in everything anyone Believe in fate I lock the door stay at home all night long Keeping safe Won’t look behind The darkest corner of my mind From the cradle to the grave It will always be the same Slip into oblivion Beautiful oblivion I picture you oblivion Beautiful oblivion Don’t look down walk the line between Love and hate Hide away close your eyes when you Fall from grace Follow the leader They rob you blind you take the bait Here’s your pill open wide swallow Round we go again There’s a reason for it all There’s a master plan Slip into oblivion Beautiful oblivion I picture you Beautiful oblivion There’s a reason for it all There’s a master plan Slip into oblivion Beautiful oblivion I picture you oblivion Beautiful oblivion

Part time lovers Arrange to meet Stony hearts Almost beat Dressed to kill Make your mark Conversation razor sharp Shooting stars glow and fade In and out of love as seasons change Torn between the lust and pain Can’t give it up, can’t get enough Going to stir it around Turn it upside down Push it ride it twist it inside out This is love, a strange love This is love, a strange love This is love, a strange love This is love, Strangelove Aim at target Pull the trigger Slip a ring On your finger Weddings plans Stony broke Conversation Up in smoke Fight it out, run away Ripping up the rules, the games we play Talk about it, cast round for blame Can’t give it up, can’t get enough Going to stir it around Turn it upside down Push it ride it twist it inside out This is love, a strange love This is love, a strange love This is love, a strange love This is love, Strangelove

Hotel Room 04:27
This is the end of the cruellest season Of black out skies and bullet rain Shelter from the ammunition A kiss to shape your heart again Run through the streets to the city edge Follow the lights to a world of dreamers A hotel room where nobody knows you In my hotel room, nothing to stop you So I wake you I’m going to love you through the night, night, night This place will never break you down The table’s set to bless desires Your future on a silver platter That glistens in the twilight hours Run through the streets to the city edge Follow the lights to a world of dreamers A hotel room where nobody knows you In my hotel room, nothing to stop you So I wake you I’m going to love you through the night, night, night

All around me the walls come crashing down Only me left standing in this rotten town Open wound to the chest and my heart’s gone You know I’m breathing hard cos I’m fearless Where did you come from You’re like nothing on earth Are you blessed are you cursed It feels like nothing on earth Is it the devil at work I’ve been backing into corners waiting for a sign Double whiskey and a soda, just passing time With a flip of a switch and you’ve saved me Your question, I’m driving to the ocean won’t you step inside You’re like nothing on earth Are you blessed are you cursed It feels like nothing on earth Is it the devil at work And although I own the world For me there is just one city And in that city there is just one house And in that house, just one room And in that room, a bed And just one man sleeps there The love of all my life Love is more than tongues can speak The dance without question

Nightshift 04:08
Invitations coming on the telephone From the concrete jungle, from a distant zone So we talk it over and decide to go There are children crying on the radio They were people dancing on a night clear There were crying babies, there were morning tears When I heard you Mama I began to feel Irritation tearing at my souvenirs Nightshift, Nightshift Nightshift, Nightshift Invitations coming on the telephone From another station in a different zone In the silent evening you are ready to go There are children crying on the radio Well the people come and then the people go And their face is melting on the video When I stared at you the wind began to blow And you never found what you were looking for Nightshift, Nightshift Nightshift, Nightshift Children crying on the radio Children crying on the radio Children crying on the radio Children crying on the radio Radio, radio, radio, radio… Nightshift, Nightshift Nightshift, Nightshift Nightshift, Nightshift Nightshift, Nightshift Nightshift, Nightshift Nightshift, Nightshift

There are songs about saying goodbye and songs that tip a feeling towards the light. Some songs are about breaking rules and broken wings. Others I wrote when the weather was bad and the rain never stopped. Some believe in a happy ending and some just believe in themselves.
9.
There was a boy who never smiled Spent his time chasing butterflies So carefully he put them in a case No one saw his fine collection Safe behind a wall of glass For posterity he locked their beauty away He believed they were better off that way You cast your net and pull me in You always win this game You cast your net and pull me in You always win this game It’s become a quiet obsession Destroying all the things you love So patiently just waiting for the chance To clip those wings And stop this merry dance You cast your net and pull me in You always win this game You cast your net and pull me in You always win this game There was a boy who never smiled Spent his time chasing butterflies So carefully he locked their beauty away He believed they were better off that way You cast your net and pull me in You always win this game You cast your net and pull me in You always win this game The boy who never smiled Took beauty as his prisoner Kept chasing butterflies And now he’s the collector

Here she comes out of the darkness The symphony begins to play Conversation fades to silence And the light falls on her face She stands alone tonight Unsure of what to say Breathing (see her) Breathing (feel her) Breathe in, fade out Breathing (see her) Breathing (feel her) Breathe in, fade out The evening sun is just a spotlight The panorama rolls away Through the glitter and the grandeur There’s life in the cabaret She stands alone tonight Unsure of what to say Breathing (see her) Breathing (feel her) Breath in, fade out Breathing (see her) Breathing (feel her) Breathe in, fade out

I turned on the radio And heard a man say I left home one morning And ran far away Never made it to work On the 8.30 train Just kept going south To start over again You can’t win, you can’t lose When there’s nothing left to choose Know what’s right, know what’s wrong But still don’t belong Nothing lost, nothing gained Things will never be the same Better take up the chance to quietly slip away We spin around in endless circles One day we’ll stop and hit the ground We spent all our love And fell out of time Building our dream home On the wrong side of town Never wanted for much Just a place in the sun I sent you a letter Didn’t say where I’d gone You can’t win, you can’t lose When there’s nothing left to choose Know what’s right, know what’s wrong But still don’t belong Nothing lost, nothing gained Things will never be the same Better take up the chance to quickly slip away We spin around in endless circles One day we’ll stop and hit the ground We spin around in endless circles Searching for life we never find

Into this labyrinth I go A saint and a sinner Behind all the flesh and the bone This face is a mirror There’s never an easy way out The signs are just riddles to me Messages sent from the past A picture of what you could be The man I knew He can bring me back to you The man I knew He can bring me back to you The man I knew He can bring me back to you The man I knew He can bring me back to you I move from the left to the right There’s no where to go in between An ending is almost in sight Now something’s about to begin The man I knew He can bring me back to you The man I knew He can bring me back to you The man I knew He can bring me back to you The man I knew He can bring me back to you

Masquerade 03:14
The more I see The more I know The more I feel The less I show The clothes I wear The words I speak Behind the mask A mystery I’ve got it mastered The art of disguise Nothing to lose Everything to hide Masquerade The masquerade Broken lights Broken streets Another face Another dream The pretty things Are bored to tears Lost behind Their bright veneers We’ve got it mastered The art of disguise Nothing to lose Everything to hide Masquerade The masquerade

Through the streets I wander far away Underneath electric sun Fallen leaves out on the river Journey long into unknown I see the answer I know what’s right from wrong Just off the radar I don’t belong, I don’t belong Love and exile, bring me home Love and exile, bring me home And the day gives into shadow Thought I heard you call my name It’s your face in the water Silent night is here again I see what’s happened I’ve been the long way round It’s on the radar The place I know, the place I know Love and exile, bring me home Love and exile, bring me home Love and exile, bring me home Love and exile, bring me home

Been out all night, I needed a bite, I thought I’d put a record on I reached for the one with the ultra-modern label, and wondered where the light had gone It had a futuristic cover, lifted straight from Buck Rogers The record was so black it had to be a con The autochanger switched as I filled my sandwich And futuristic sounds warbled off and on The black hit of space It’s the one without a face It’s the one that doesn’t fit You can only see the flip The black hit of space Sucking in the human race How can it stay at the top When it’s swallowed all the shops As the song climbed the charts, the others disappeared Til there was nothing but it left to buy It got to number one, then into minus figures Though nobody could understand why The black hit of space It’s the one without a face It’s the one that doesn’t fit You can only see the flip The black hit of space Sucking in the human race How can it stay at the top When it’s swallowed all the shops I couldn’t stand this bland sound any more so I walked towards my deck to turn it off All I could see was the b-side of the disc which had assumed a doughnut shape with the label on the outside rim I reached for the arm which was less than one micron long, but weighed more than Saturn and time stood still I knew I had to escape but every time I tried to flee, the record was in front of me The black hit of space Get James Burke on the case It’s the hit that’s never gone Time stops when you put it…
